EU expands cooperation on critical raw materials

With the new forum on the Partnership for Mineral Security, in which the United States, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan are also participating, the EU is pushing for the supply of materials needed to continue the green and digital transition

Brussels – Today (April 5), the EU announced the launch of the Minerals Security Partnership Forum. This cooperation platform will ensure, among other things, the supply of critical raw materials, such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and graphite, which are scarce in the European subsoil but critical to continuing the green and digital transition.

At the Forum, in addition to the EU are participating the United States and members of the Partnership for Mineral Security (PSM) who have been joined by Kazakhstan, Namibia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. For Executive Vice President for Economic Affairs and Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, “this comprehensive initiative ensures increased investment, diversification of supply chains, and will bring sustainable benefits to all parties.”

Membership in the Forum on the Partnership for Minerals Security will be open to countries that have committed to the Forum’s core principles: the diversification of global supply chains, high environmental standards, and fair working conditions. Confirming the strength of transatlantic cooperation, the EU and the United States will jointly lead the new Forum.
